Braille Display Support
TAB2Read supports refreshable Braille displays, providing a tactile reading experience for users who prefer Braille over audio.
Connecting a Braille Display
Section titled “Connecting a Braille Display”- Pair your Braille display with your device via Bluetooth (in device Settings)
- Enable VoiceOver if not already active
- Open TAB2Read — Braille output begins automatically

Your Braille display will show the current VoiceOver focus element in Braille, allowing you to navigate the entire app through tactile feedback.
Reading BRF Books
Section titled “Reading BRF Books”For books in BRF (Braille Ready Format):
- Content is rendered directly for Braille display output
- Navigate using your display’s previous/next buttons
- Page navigation matches the book’s Braille page structure
- Position tracking works with Braille page numbers

Braille Display with Other Formats
Section titled “Braille Display with Other Formats”Even for non-Braille books (DAISY audio, text), a connected Braille display provides:
- Navigation feedback — current element shown in Braille
- Control labels — button names and states in Braille
- Text content — text books displayed on the Braille display line by line
- Search and input — type using Braille display keyboard
Display Options
Section titled “Display Options”ASCII Braille
Section titled “ASCII Braille”Standard ASCII characters representing Braille cells. Compatible with all Braille displays.
Unicode Braille
Section titled “Unicode Braille”Visual Braille dot patterns on screen. Useful for sighted Braille instructors or for verification.
Toggle between these modes in the reader settings.
Supported Braille Displays
Section titled “Supported Braille Displays”TAB2Read works with any refreshable Braille display supported by your device’s operating system:
- iOS / iPadOS — any MFi-certified or supported Bluetooth Braille display
- Android — any display supported by TalkBack
- Common displays: Humanware Brailliant, HIMS, Orbit Reader, etc.
